Dragster 2

NHRA D3 photographer Kevin Pepera caught this good burn-out shot at National Trail Raceway in July 2010.

Monroe went on to win that National Trail event by getting past good buddy Lynn "The Pirate" Ellison in the final round late Sunday evening.

AutoImagery put together this cool collage after the Norwalk Top Dragster win.

After back to back semi-final showings at the first two NHRA Division 3 races Monroe broke through with a big win at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.  Monroe qualified 10th for this race with a 6.761 at over 196 MPH and found himself five rounds later in the final with the "red hot" Ray Miller.  Monroe and Miller left the starting line with near perfect reaction times (below) and Monroe's car was a little closer to the dial in the double breakout affair.

The 2010 season officially got started for KillerRONS.COM's James Monroe at the April Spring Sportsman Challenge JEG'S Super Quick Series race.  Bret Kepner caught the car below at half-track doing its thing as he advanced to the semi-final round before bowing out.

In April of 2009, Bret Kepner caught this great night-time photo (below) that shows how well the slip-joints do work.  This was the very first race for the new car.

In the very next outing (second race for the new car) Monroe picked up the NHRA divisional "Wally" in Top Dragster competition.  This race was won on the Mickey Thompson 33.5" tire qualifying in the 11th spot with a 6.80 at over 196 MPH with no nitrous oxide.

The outing at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH wasn't one to "write home about' but we did great a great shot of the car at the starting line in Saturday evening qualifying.  This was the first pass with the new design Spitzer rear wing that reduces drag and weight.

The VP Racing Fuels Quick 32 Series at Lyons Raceway Park was a huge success in its inaugural season.  The car never missed not being in the top-half of the dragster qualifying and recorded a 4.3x pass in all five events.  Damon Atherton caught the dual chutes out in qualifying in event #1.

The last pass of the 2009 season was a narrow .0005 final round loss to Top Dragster champion Jeff Brown at the Indy Fall Classic JEG'S Super Quick Series race.  With this final round appearance Monroe sealed up second place in the series.

For 2010, small tweaks to the chassis and engine were being made so that it can run in the 6.70's at over 200 MPH if necessary.  Steve Schmidt Competition Engines in Indianapolis, IN has freshened the engine to brand new specifications.  Engine builder (Adam Layman) "tweaks" and a set of The Fab Shop headers added up to an additional 30 HP and 35 FT/LBS of torque over the initial combination.  This brings the ouput numbers for the all-aluminum 585" 12* engine to 1240 HP and 935 FT/LBS of torque.  The engine has been resinstalled into the chassis with the addition of a new coat of black powder coat on the dry sump tank to go compliment the "gothic theme".

We are excited to have the very first Transmission Specialties aftermarket transmission case going in this car.  Below is the TSI Proline 5500 Series transmission that is rated for 3000 HP.

To ensure the quicker ET's (when necessary) a Nitrous Express Gemini-Twin Stage 6 Alcohol system was installed late in 2009 and tested on the final weekend with an elapsed time gain of .17 in the 1/8 mile with a 150 HP shot for 3.0 seconds.  This system utilizes a dedicated electric fuel pump that sprays methanol as the enrichment fuel.

Also new will be a different carbon fiber scoop from Spitzer Race Cars designed specifically for injected engines.  This is the similar air scoop to the one made famous on Bill Rechert's A/Fuel dragster.

The RPM Performance Data Logger was relocated to the front of the car to isolate the components and add even more sensors.

New custom built headers were added for 2010 with an attractive black finish from Nitroplate.  The headers are outfitted with eight EGT probes and two O2 sensors.

With the added amount of nitrous oxide a Star Machine Mountain Motor pump has been added to ensure maximum crankcase vacuum.
