MONROE DEBUTS SCHMIDT "584 KILLER" AT INDY DIVISIONAL WITH GOOD RESULTS "Killer" James Monroe debuted the new Steve Schmidt Racing Engines "584 KILLER" this weekend. The initial qualifying pass netted a 7.23 at 183 MPH and was good for the #11 spot after the final session. More progressed through eliminations and took another tough semi-final round home with him. All in all this is a good start to the 2008 season in JEG'S Super Quick and Top Dragster competition.

MONROE STARTS WITH SOLID OUTING The 2008 season began at the St. Louis NHRA Division 3 & 5 National Open This opening SQ race begann for Monroe with a solid 4.698 qualifying shot good for the #26 position in the 64 car field. "The Mongrel" showed its ability to go down any track consistently as weather conditions were cold and soggy all weekend. Late Sunday afternoon Monroe found himself in a semi-final tilt with NHRA and IHRA Top Dragster stand-out Jeff Brown. On this day Brown's .005 light and "dead on with an O" pass was too much for the 2006 series champion.
Back to back NHRA North Central Division "ET Bracket Driver of the Year", James Monroe, started off 2007 in the same impressive fashion as the previous two seasons. On April 1 in his second weekend at the wheel of the beautiful DragstersForSale.Com 2007 Undercover dragster; Monroe visited the final round of Super Pro eliminator at the NHRA National Open at Gateway Int'l Raceway. "Killer" James used steady reaction times and consistent 4.65 elapsed times in the 1/8 mile to earn a spot in the final along side local standout Dan Phelps. In the final Monroe fell short by .011 in a good race. This was only the third loss for Monroe in the previous nineteen final rounds since the beginning of the 2005 season.

Later in the month of May Monroe clicked of an impressive 15-2 round record at the Memphis Motorsports Mega-Bucks Series weekend. Monroe advanced to the final three in Day 1 only to lose by .003 to bracket racing legend Danny Nelson. On Sunday Monroe took it one step further to visit yet another final round. In this final things started good with a PERFECT light but it still wasn't enough to take the win over Jesse Bobo. This was the first weekend for Monroe to carry the VP Racing Fuels banner on his dragster after signing a two year contract to respresent the company in an R&D and consulting capacity. Monroe is shown below at his shop with VP owner Steve Burns shortly before the successful trip to Memphis.

The Summer months of 2007 saw Monroe go through what all racers unfortunately experience at several points in their career. Unfortunately during June, July and August Monroe couldn't muster a final round appearance. Although it seemed like a tough time there were still many things learned as new fuels for VP and Transmission Specialties converters were tested. Monroe also worked a couple different engine combinations out during this period that helped late in the season and hopefully will continue into 2008.
Some say that when you are struggling with an endeavor it is best to simplify. With this in mind James went back to a 4.90-5.00 combination and made a return to the place of his 2005 Super Pro season championship, ET Raceway, for their Labor Day weekend races. ET had a near record car count for their two-race in one-day format. After 8 rounds in the second $2,000 race; two KillerRONS.COM racers were still standing. Long time Flying Toilet user, Jason McConnell, took the win over Monroe in the final by a mere .006.
Just a few weeks later at the Gateway Int'l Raceway Mega-Bucks weekend "Killer" James took the win in the High-Rollers gamblers race to snap the runner-up streak at three. Monroe ended the race with a .015 initiated light and 4.801 on his 4.80 dial to force fellow Indiana resident Darren Douglas under his dial. This was the first all out bracket weekend for the new 548" Sunset Racecraft engine and Spitzer slip-joint dragster Monroe lovingly refers to as "The Mongrel" (photo below)and an amazing 22nd final round since the beginning of 2005. Monroe, who was feeling "it", took this combination to Memphis for the Million Dollar Drag Race the next weekend. Against the most impressive field assembled for a bracket race Monroe advanced to the fifth round money before falling out.
MONROE TAKES HOME HARDWARE AT THE 2006 NHRA DIVISION 3 WINNER'S BANQUET What a great night our very own James Monroe had at the NHRA Division 3 banquet in early January 2007. The expected part of the evening was being awarded the Divisional Championship Wally for the JEG'S Super Quick Series. The unexpected is what came next. "Killer" was again named the 2006 North Central Division ET Bracket Driver of the Year for the second season in a row. To top that off, Division Director, Jay Hullinger, awarded Monroe the "Be Cool" Radiator Coolest Car of the Division Award.
To earn the above awards "Killer" James started off the season in grand fashion with a JEG'S Super Quick Series win on May 13 at his home track, Ohio Valley Dragway. Monroe took the early season points lead with the final round victory over 2005 series champion Lester Adkins. On that same night Monroe advanced to the final three cars in S/P class. To finish things off right at Ohio Valley Dragway, Monroe returned one week later to take home the S/P win. That win capped off an incredible 17 round win onslaught for the two week period.
On June 17, Gateway International Raceway hosted their annual National Dragster Challenge. Rains plagued time trials postponing eliminations until nearly midnight but that played right into Monroe’s hands with his deadly Terminator. Twelve hours after the initial time run Monroe found himself in the final round dialing the same 4.74 as it ran on the first pass before the rain set in. James used a .002 light and a 4.744 on his 4.74 dial to pick-up the winner's check and his fourth Wally in less than 12 months.
In keeping with the once each month win scenario Monroe collected the Buffalo Soldiers S/P win on July 30th at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. Monroe waded through 8 tough rounds to pick up the $2,500 check (picture below with father, Mike). A special thanks goes out to William Hamilton and the Buffalo Soldiers of Cincinnati for putting on a great race.

One of the highlights of anyone’s career would be taking home the win in two classes on the same night in NHRA competition. On August 12 “Killer” did just that by ripping 13 round wins in a row at Bunker Hill Dragstrip, in Kokomo, IN. Monroe scored the second JEG'S SUPER QUICK 32 win of the season and moments later took the Super Pro portion of the night's festivities home. How good are the Terminators you ask? The answer...it was enough to pull off this accomplishment making 16 total passes in the 4.73 at 143 MPH range and never exceeding 175 degrees water temperature.
Monroe finished off August by running “dead-on” his dial in 10 of 13 rounds during Bluegrass Raceway Park’s Labor Day Special Races. This was good enough to pick up the runner-up money after losing a .001 race to Tony Lowery of Kentucky. This was only the second loss for Monroe in the last 17 final rounds since the beginning of 2006.
James put the final round loss behind him as he went into the close of the season and took home a final big win of the season. On September 9 at his favorite Ohio Valley Dragway Monroe used a deadly hot rod and a string of .007 to .015 lights over 8 rounds of competition for the impressive $5,000 win. In the final, Monroe squared off against professional racer Shawn Langdon in one of his Lucas Oil sponsored dragster. "Killer" used a slight starting line edge to roll into his 4.74 dial for the win.
KillerRONS.COM's James Monroe used the same Ron's Fuel Injection Systems and Transmission Specialties converters he sells during each week to post an incredible 2005 season. All in all, Monroe rode his Undercover Motorsports dragster (below) to10 final rounds and won 9 of those match-ups. This year-long effort was good enough to earn him the honor of being named the 2005 NHRA North Central Division Driver of the Year.
The majority of the season was spent chasing the Super Pro track championship at his most local NHRA facility, ET Raceway in Lyons, IN. During this Summer stint he visited 4 final rounds and suffered his only final round defeat during that stretch. These efforts were still enough to win the hard fought championship going away late in the points battle.
During off-weekends and Sundays Monroe was able to visit other local facilities and pick up cash and prices. Indianapolis Raceway Park saw Monroe pick up a 1/4 mile class win early in the season and later on Monroe grabbed the NHRA King of the Track honors which included a "Wally". One of the two Wally's he would win on the season. A trip to Ohio Valley Dragway also netted a Quick 16 win.
The last third of the season brought about a little traveling and some big money racing. Monroe kicked it up a notch and got red hot at the right time winning a $10,000 race in Owingsville, Ky (photo below), a $5,000 at Bunker Hill Dragway in Kokomo, IN. To finish the season right Monroe pulled a JEG'S Super Quick win at Indy which featured an expanded 64 car field.

SECONDARY PRODUCT OFFERINGS Most know that the fuel system alone does not make a great race car. The successful sportsman drag car needs a multitude of parts that work together. A perfect example of this is the spragless converter. The advent of this converter was critical to injection users as the bottom end torque created by these fuel systems was (is) death on sprags. Be one of the first in your area to have the Original "Spragless" Converter in your car. We are believers in these quality units from Transmission Specialties and you will be too after you read this! We offer great pricing on these converters as well as complete Proline 5000 transmissions. Transmissions can now be shipped for under $100 to most anywhere in the US. Call James for information and pricing.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK "Hey James - Just a quick note from our first race with injection and a throttle stop. Thought for sure I was a "duck" but excited to run the new system none the less. Got four test and tune passes in on Friday night and while we got close to the 8.90 index my confidence was low due to not being able to see if it would repeat. All of this coming from friends and those "in the know" saying there is no way injection will work on the stop. That weekend at the IHRA points meet in San Antonio the car ran right where I set it and I advanced to the Semi's on Saturday and the 4th round on Sunday. My friends aren't laughing anymore!" Thanks again....Mark Deberry QR #4687.
Thanks again for the help and service with the new injection system. So far, it really does seem too easy. The service has been great and you pretty much hit the nail on the head with what you thought it woudl run. I am sure it will run even better after I mess with it some more and the green track comes around. I was hoping it would run at all and to do that after only five runs is impressive to me."
